About QUBTri

QUBTri welcomes anyone of any age to begin training with us. We have members of all abilities who enjoy the social and physical aspects of group training sessions.
Competing in a triathlon (or just completing one) is a tough pursuit. It is crucial to the sport that we all train our bodies to cope with the physical load and to hone our skills to make us more efficient and fast. Regular training is crucial for this. Advice on planning training can be found in many good books (see Training for some advice and book recommendations). The general macro idea is that the winter months are long, slow endurance training; spring is all about a build phase towards summer training and racing which is generally fast and short. This is a simplistic view but is the general trend.
Training on your own can be very difficult, so it is ideal to join with other people who have similar aims as yourself. This is why Queen's Triathlon Club exists! Training is designed to fit in with our study and work commitments. The training sessions provided are designed to be an encouragement and a way of learning more about the sport. It is recommended that club members supplement the training sessions laid on by the club with further training. For instance, you may attend one coached swim session a week, but ideally you should come to the pool once or twice a week on your own to practice what you have learned in the coached sessions.
Club training should never be too rigid and we allow for flexibility if members struggle to make it down to sessions. We value your feedback if you think a session should be at a different time or location. We also like to vary the training to keep it interesting so we will throw in some random activities during the year.
